If you want to stick with deeps for your brood, there is nothing wrong with shallows for supers, although you'll spend a little less time extracting if you have mediums. boyd seattle mariners

Two deeps (or three mediums) would be about the minimum. In my climate with Carniolans that would probably be fine if they didn't have too big of a cluster going into winter.
